It is an exciting time for our pupils and parents, as St. John’s Preparatory School is pleased to share with you more details of the new extension.
The impressive and ecologically-friendly addition to our school is coming soon and we cannot wait for you to see it in all its glory.
It is a 5000 sq. ft. three-storey extension that will bring more space, light, facilities and a beautiful ecological experience to existing pupils and parents as well as those families joining us in the future.
More Places, Spaces and Facilities
Speaking of our Preparatory School pupils, they shall benefit from four new modern, light and airy classrooms on the second floor, a new unit designed to accommodate younger pupils on the first floor, new restrooms on the first and second floor, a glass lift, a new kitchen, an extended Hall, a new ICT suite and a new, fully equipped Medical Room, specifically designed to provide our pupils with a comfortable and relaxing environment. Finally, new offices and two new glass entrances on two sides of the new building will allow access to the new extension, which will serve to alleviate the congestion at the end of the school day.
Dedicated, individual Music Practice rooms will also be introduced to allow our pupils the opportunity to unleash their creativity in a purpose built and stimulating environment.
The extension also includes a light, airy and fully equipped new staff room for the team at St. John’s complete with new restrooms.
Designed with the Environment in Mind
Located on the east wing of the school, another impressive feature of the entire build is that it will be ecologically designed with solar panels, absorbing the sun’s rays to source the energy for heating and lighting the building. It will also recycle rainwater.
The extension, due for completion in October 2017, has been designed by David Thom, of Stern Thom Fehler Architects Ltd., with whom St. John’s has worked closely whilst constructing our state of the art Sports Hall Changing Rooms. The chartered architects work with many schools, religious organisations and communities on building design projects.
In 2013, they designed our Early Years facility comprising of two new classrooms, existing classroom refurbishment, new restrooms and a spacious Outdoor Learning provision, also incorporating facilities for the disabled. In 2015 they designed and oversaw the construction of our Changing Rooms facilities at the Senior School site.
Construction is being carried out by Borras Construction of St. Albans.
