The arrangements for the 4th Form’s visit to the Somme Battlefield are now complete. We will leave from St. John’s Senior School on 30th October early in the morning. Please arrive between 5.30 a.m. and no later than 5.50 a.m. so that we can leave at 6 a.m. It is scheduled that we check in at Folkstone for our crossing to Calais at 8.35a.m. so it is essential that we should not have to wait for late comers.
Students need to bring a packed lunch for this first day. They should also bring some money, around 60 Euros will be enough, to buy souvenirs or drinks.
Given the time of the year, pupils will need warm clothing and a lightweight waterproof jacket. They should also bring a pair of walking boots or Wellington boots as the sites we visit may be muddy. Students will then be able to change footwear before they board the coach.
Please let me have your child’s passports and EHIC cards this week (Thursday morning at the latest) and I will keep them in the school safe. This is to ensure that no student forgets these essential travel documents on the day of the trip. However, if students require these documents for half term, the student needs to inform me so that I can make a note to remind them on Monday 29th October.
We will return on 31st October, crossing from Calais at 5.20 p.m. (French time). Once we are back in Folkstone, students will be able to call home in order to confirm the estimated time of arrival at the school: that will be around 7 p.m. depending on traffic.
I am confident this trip will prove to be an enriching experience for every pupil. Thank you for your support.
