12th January, 2017

Dear Parents,

‘Science Live’ for GCSE pupils

You will have seen on the school calendar that this event will be taking place on Friday 10th March 2017 and we will be taking all the fifth form GCSE pupils.

Five leading scientists will be participating in the event – Lord Robert Winston, Professor Jim Al-Khalili, Professor Andrea Sella, Professor Alice Roberts, and Dr. Maggie Aderin-Pocock. These are not only top scientists in their respective fields, but they are also renowned for their ability to communicate to a wide audience, including school children. All have appeared on television and I am sure some of their names will be familiar to you.

In addition there will be a presentation from one of the GCSE examiners giving advice on how to prepare for GCSE Science examinations

The cost of this event will be £23.00 per pupil. Please note that payment should be made by way of cheque (payable to St. John’s Senior School) or cash only and not through the school’s bank account. I would be grateful if you would complete the form below and return this to me with the remittance.

We will be travelling by underground from Cockfosters Tube station and I would be grateful if your son/daughter can be dropped off at the station by 9.00am. Full school uniform must be worn and pupils should bring a packed lunch as it will not be possible to purchase food at the venue. I anticipate that we shall be arriving back at Cockfosters station at 4pm. If your son/daughter wishes to return to school independently or leave the train before reaching Cockfosters then I would appreciate a letter from you giving consent for this.

Yours faithfully,

Mr. Garibaldinos,

(Trip Co-ordinator).
