The trip will aid the students ahead of their controlled assessments on the poets of the First World War.

The letter is detailed below:

10th March, 2016.

Dear Parents,

Re:      First World War Poetry Tour Ypres and Somme

November may seem a long way off, but I have arranged for next year’s 4th & 5th form to visit the battlefields of Ypres and the Somme as preparation for their controlled assessment on the poets of the First World War.

This is a two day tour departing on Tuesday, 1st November and returning on Wednesday, 2nd November.  The cost of the trip is £160 and includes the following:-

  • Return travel by coach and Eurotunnel from school to France
  • Overnight full board hotel accommodation plus packed lunch on Wednesday
  • Insurance
  • Personal tour guide

This is a unique opportunity for our students to experience the poetry in the landscape which inspired it and in its historical context. It will be an invaluable aid to their coursework.

Further details will be issued in May, but in the meantime I should be grateful if you would complete the reply slip below and return it to your child’s form teacher by Wednesday, 16th March together with a £80 non-refundable deposit to secure their place.

Yours sincerely,

Trip Co-ordinator.

The letter also contains a reply slip which needs to be filled and handed back in at school, it can be download by clicking HERE.
