Dear Parents,

In order to keep you updated with life at St. John’s Prep and Senior School, based in Enfield, Potters Bar, this review highlights school news, developments with our on-going projects and results of our recent sporting competitions in brief.

Sports Hall Extension

St John's Prep and Senior School Sports Hall 2

Progress on the School’s brand new Sports Hall extension is advancing steadily despite challenging weather conditions. The structure of the building has been erected and many of the internal walls are now in place.

Construction of the building will continue into December and we expect the building to be completed and fully operational in early 2015.

Once complete, the Sports Hall extension will provide the School’s students with state-of-the-art changing rooms, showers and an additional classroom for P.E. We hope this development will inspire students of all ages to get involved in Sport to stay healthy and active.

Netballers Beat Latymer

Although the focus of this review has been on the School’s 1st and 2nd forms, the participation and success of all age groups at Netball has been fantastic. They have represented our School with pride and we are all delighted by their achievements.

Our victory against Latymer saw the school’s 1st and 2nd forms beat their opponents 15-10 in a Country League match. It was a close contest, but our girls held their nerve and showed their quality to deliver the winning touch.

The School’s P.E. teachers were especially pleased with the team’s set-play moves. A special mention goes to the team captain Jasmine and attacker Adaeze.

Footballers into the Last 16 of National Competition

Not to be outshone, the Boys’ Football Team has put together a string of victories with special mention going to our highly talented U15s team who continued their winning ways earlier this month when they progressed to the last 16 of the English Schools Football Association (ESFA) U15’s Schools Trophy (sponsored by PlayStation).

91 schools across the country entered the competition and after beating Lingfield School 1-0, our U15s are now at the Quarter Final stage. Well done to Kennedy, who secured the victory with a fantastic winning goal.

Trips to Italy, Madrid, Benfica, Berlin and Skiing in Morzine

This month letters have gone out offering trips abroad. In addition to our annual trips to Madrid, Skiing in Morzine, Christmas market in Berlin, Paris and Greece, two new trips have been introduced this year. The 5th formers have been invited to go on a trip to Pompeii and Herculaneum and the F3’s from the Prep School along with members of the Football Team from 1st and 2nd formers at the Senior School have been invited to attend a football trip to Benfica, where they will train under Benfica FC Coaches and compete against other international teams.

We hope the latter trip will be as big a success as last year’s sporting trip to Malaga. The Greece trip invitation letter will be handed out in the New Year.

Prep School Christmas Carol Concert

As our final festive offering, we invite you to attend the Prep. School Christmas Carol Concert at St. Mary’s Church on the 9th December at 7pm. where you can also enjoy warm mince pies and mulled wine.
