Re: Upper 6th Form Visits Day – Tuesday 30th October 2018.
This term’s visit will be at the Old Operating Theatre & Museum, and the London Dungeons. As shown on the school calendar, this will take place on Tuesday 30th October.
Some information about the Old Operating Theater. It is a museum located in the roof space of the former St. Thomas’ church, Southwark. It served as an operating theatre from 1822 to 1862. It was surrounded by seating in which medical students could observe surgical procedures. When St. Thomas hospital relocated to Lambeth the operating theatre was closed, sealed and forgotten. It was ‘rediscovered’ in 1956 by some builders and opened as a museum in 1962 as a fascinating time capsule from the 19th century.
All our students will observe a well explained demonstration of how surgical procedures were taking place at the time when the theatre was used.
All students should come dressed in their normal smart school wear. There will be the option of bringing packed lunch or going into the usual eating venues.
The cost for this trip is £17.50, which should be handed in to the office with the attached reply slip below on Wednesday 17th October at the latest.
On the day all students should meet at Cockfosters tube station at 9.00 a.m. and please ensure they have a topped-up oyster card because they need to use it to pay for their tube fair. We will aim to be back at Cockfosters at approximately 4.30 p.m.
