St. John’s Senior: Top 40 A-Level Success in UK 2025

Posted: 25th September 2025

Dear Parents,

In anticipation of St. John’s releasing its official results booklet including A Level results, University Destinations, GCSEs, Lamda results, we bring you news that we are veryproud to announce. The A Level League tables have been published and St. John’s soars to 39 th place in the United Kingdom.

In 2021, it became our mission to put our A Levels on the map. We wanted them to be something very special. The late Mr. Tardios Snr. would always tell our teachers, ‘A Level results define a school, as ultimately it is these qualifications that determine which university a student will gain an offer from’.

St. John’s therefore hired extra A level teachers that specialised in older students, some of which used to be university lecturers and others academic doctors. We brought in a new Head of 6 th Form and an Ofsted consultant / inspector who works with us full time. Although we remained loyal to our St. John’s students moving from GCSEs to A Levels, we became more careful as to which students we would accept on our A Level course. Ultimately, we now find ourselves in the wonderful position whereby the school motto ‘Res Ipsa Loquitur’
(The Facts Speak for Themselves) applies. We are officially the 39 th Best Independent School in the UK based on A Level results 2025.

Moving forward, where do we hope to be? We wish to continue our long history of league table success starting in 1996, our 1 st cohort of GCSE students. Our goal is to reach the top
20 and remain there, however, it may be a race against time because Secondary School League Tables are slowly being phased out.

Many will remember how prior to the 2019 pandemic, we had the Borough League Tables, which included both state and private schools from each borough. This is where St. John’s made its name coming No.1 in the Borough of Enfield 19 times in 23 years. Sadly, since the pandemic these have been abandoned. Then we had the Telegraph’s Top 100 list up until 2024 and these appear to have been replaced with The Best Value Secondary Schools list whereby each school is given an individual ranking rather than placed in a league table.

Thankfully, the Best Independent Schools list based on A Level results is still out there published by Britannia, however, one wonders how much longer for. It may be that the pressfeel that given the country’s current focus on the economy, a Best Value For Money Secondary Schools List is more relevant to their readership. We cannot predict what to expect from the press in the future, but for now we will celebrate this wonderful moment and congratulate those students who achieved the required A* – A grades, on which the League Tables are based. Our thanks also go to our excellent teachers that brought the best out of our pupils. Well done to all!
