Preparation for University

Academic rigour

Academic rigour lies at the heart of St. John’s life. Students, supported every step of the way by our exceptional teachers, explore their interests in greater depth, in pursuit of academic excellence.

Scholarship, perseverance, and strong work ethic are promoted in every subject. You will be taught by true subject experts whose passion for their subjects and research make learning as stimulating as possible.

Class sizes are small. A typical group contains between two and six pupils. As a St. John’s sixth former, this is your time to grow in independence, engage in stimulating debate and discussion, and develop your academic voice.

We expect you to be self-motivated, organised and ambitious. Expect in return to be challenged, encouraged to explore difficult issues, and tackle complex problems. Our students regularly compete in internal and external essay competitions and other external academic competitions.

When St. John’s students leave us, they are ready for the rigorous independent study required at university.
