At St. John’s, we strive to offer our students a diverse range of experiences. This year, they visited the Oxford and Cambridge Club, the Army and Navy Club, various art exhibitions, participated in overseas trips, and attended exclusive career events at Oxford and Cambridge.
It is with great pride that we reflect on the St. John’s Prep & Senior Sixth Form Inaugural Career Dinner, held on 30th January 2025 at the University of Cambridge. As the Head of Sixth Form, it was an honour to take our students to my own Cambridge college.
From the moment we arrived, the students of St. John’s Prep & Senior Sixth Form were welcomed into an environment that encouraged meaningful discussions and professional growth. The Welcome & Networking Reception set the stage for the evening, allowing students to engage with accomplished guests and start conversations that could shape their future aspirations.
At 7:00 p.m., the Opening Address provided words of encouragement and insight from Dr. Patrick Fullick, Dr. Alexander Peattie, and Mr. Takumi Ito. Their experiences across academia, business, and science sparked thought-provoking discussions and inspired our students to embrace ambition with purpose.
During the Gourmet Dinner at 7:30 p.m., students were seated among distinguished professionals, allowing them to engage in intellectual discussions over a fine meal. The highlight of the evening was the Keynote Address by Professor Paul Luzio, who shared with us his experience of being a master of a Cambridge College. He told the story about his peer, who went on to win the Nobel prize. His insights provided a powerful reminder that success is built on passion and hard work.
This event was about more than just career guidance; it was about opening doors to possibilities. Students explored fields such as science, finance, law, technology, and social sciences, gaining first-hand knowledge from professionals at the peak of their careers. These interactions helped them refine their ambitions and understand the dynamic nature of professional success.
