St. John’s Volunteers Lead the Way at ISA National Swimming Finals

Posted: 28th November 2025

This morning, the energy at the pool was electric—not just in the water, but on the deck, as 21 St. John’s pupils took charge at the Independent Schools Association (ISA) National Swimming Finals. Stepping into vital leadership roles, our volunteers were the engine room behind one of the most prestigious events in the ISA sporting calendar.

A Masterclass in Event Management

The success of a national final depends on precision, and our “St. Johnians” rose to the challenge with remarkable professionalism. The day saw our pupils managing a diverse range of responsibilities that required quick thinking and clear communication:

  • Logistics & Coordination: Organizing heats and ensuring competitors were registered correctly.

  • Marshalling: Lining up swimmers and guiding groups to their respective blocks to ensure a seamless transition between races.

  • Flow Management: Keeping the event on schedule and ensuring the spectator and athlete areas remained orderly.

Commitment, Growth, and Service

What stood out most was the commitment and teamwork displayed by every member of the volunteer team. Service is a core value at St. John’s, and seeing our pupils work together to support athletes from across the country was a moment of genuine pride. Beyond the physical tasks, the students gained valuable experience in high-pressure event management, developing soft skills that are impossible to teach in a traditional classroom setting.

Acknowledgments

This successful day of service would not have been possible without the meticulous planning of Mrs. Restivo, whose organization ensured our pupils were well-prepared for their roles. Further thanks go to Mrs. Brooker and Mr. Heracleous for their support and guidance throughout the morning.

Our volunteers return to school today having not only represented St. John’s with distinction but also having contributed significantly to the national sporting community. Well done to all involved!
