St. John’s is proud to have been awarded the Beacon Peaceful School Award in [month] 2026. The award recognises our commitment to a safe, inclusive and supportive school community, where pupils’ mental health, wellbeing and positive relationships sit at the heart of school life.
What is the Beacon Peaceful School Award?
The Beacon Peaceful School Award is presented by the Peaceful Schools movement to schools that show a strong commitment to a peaceful school culture. Schools demonstrate their work across four key areas: Individual Peace, Peaceful Relationships, a Peaceful School Ethos and a Peaceful World.
Wellbeing and pastoral care at St. John’s
As an independent school educating children from Nursery to Sixth Form, across our Prep School in Potters Bar and our Senior School in Enfield, we believe in supporting pupils socially and emotionally as well as academically.
Our pastoral care begins with helping children understand their own emotions. Pupils learn strategies to manage difficult feelings, to recognise when they may need support, and to know there are trusted adults in school they can turn to.
Building positive relationships
Through PSHE, assemblies, pastoral support and daily interactions, pupils develop the skills to listen to others, show empathy, resolve disagreements constructively and treat one another with kindness and respect.
A school ethos where everyone belongs
The award also recognises the wider school ethos. At St. John’s, we work to create an environment in which pupils feel safe, valued and included, and we encourage them to understand the positive contribution they can make, both in school and in the wider community. A special thank you goes to Mrs Diviani, who led our application. It brought together evidence of the considerable work already taking place throughout the school, and gave us the chance to reflect on and celebrate our whole school approach to wellbeing, relationships, inclusion and community.
Celebrating together
Pupils and staff marked the award at a special presentation in school. We explained what becoming a Beacon Peaceful School means and recognised the contribution every member of our community makes.
Receiving the award is a significant achievement, but it reflects something bigger than a trophy: the everyday actions, relationships and values that make St. John’s a caring, respectful place where children can learn, develop and thrive. We are extremely proud of our pupils and staff.
