The Under 13 footballers at St. John’s Senior School in Enfield have booked their place in the second round of the ESFA National Elite Cup, beating Aldenham School 2-0 away on 22 September 2026. Two excellent goals and a clean sheet made for an impressive start to their cup campaign.
A warm welcome at Aldenham
We would like to thank Aldenham School for their hospitality, and all the Aldenham pupils who came out to support their team. The home crowd created a real cup tie atmosphere, and both sides played a competitive match. On this occasion, however, St. John’s were just too strong.
A team goal opens the scoring
The breakthrough came from a brilliant team move, which Frankie finished to give St. John’s a deserved 1-0 lead. It was a goal built on the teamwork and composure the squad has been developing in training.
Keeping control after the interval
St. John’s kept their grip on the game after half time and continued to create chances. Cedric came close to doubling the lead when his effort flew just over the crossbar.
Timi’s moment of brilliance
The decisive second goal came in spectacular fashion. Timi produced a moment of individual brilliance down the left, beating two Aldenham players before curling a superb shot into the top corner. It was a goal worthy of winning any cup tie.
A clean sheet and a place in round two
It was a fitting finish to a commanding performance. The whole team defended with discipline to keep a clean sheet, and with their place in the next round confirmed, the U13s have begun their Elite Cup campaign in style. We look forward to reporting on the second round against [opponent, if known].
Football at St. John’s Senior School
The ESFA National Elite Cup is run by the English Schools’ Football Association and brings together strong school teams from across the country. Competing at this level is a real achievement for our pupils. The result follows the success of our U14s, crowned champions at the ESPN Disney Memorial Day World Cup in Orlando.
